Sometime between 1743 and 1755, a boy grew up in Doesburg. This boy eventually became an explorer and commander under King William V. This is the story of Robert Jacob Gordon. Robert Jacob finds a way to come to our time and goes on an adventure with Lize. Will you join them? The walk starts next to the Arsenal on Kloosterstraat. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half and is also wheelchair friendly.

Learn about the history of the Hanseatic cities in the free Hanze Walk of Fame podwalk. With audio, historical buildings in 3D and augmented reality, famous residents take you on a journey through the rich Hanseatic past, giving you an impression of what it used to look like. Collect a number of Hanseatic coins along the way, take a photo of them and pick up a real Hanseatic coin at the tourist office at the end!

They share their history, tell you about the place where they stand, the people who passed by and their wishes for the future of Wageningen. The walk has no set order: you can start at any time and at any participating tree. Scattered throughout the city, you will find different trees with a story to tell. The Hoge Veluwe Wild Weeks 2026 will take place from 11 to 26 October 2026 in De Hoge Veluwe National Park. These autumn activities are all about nature, wildlife and experiencing autumn in the Veluwe. Visitors can take part in wildlife excursions with nature guides, mushroom walks, treasure hunts and other activities for all ages. There will also be culinary events showcasing game dishes sourced from the park. An ideal activity for families and nature lovers who want to experience the Veluwe at its best.

Step into the magical world of Sinterklaas during the Sinterklaas Cellars event in Arnhem’s historic cellars. In these atmospherically decorated underground spaces, children can discover where Sinterklaas and his helpers stay during their visit to the city. Visitors can take a peek inside the bakery where pepernoten are baked, the gift room, Ozosnel’s stable and the bedrooms of Sinterklaas and his helpers. There are also fun activities such as Piet exercises, throwing presents down chimneys and learning the Piet dance. Of course, a meeting with Sinterklaas is a must. Step back in time to 19th-century England during the Dickens Festival in Deventer. In the historic Bergkwartier district, more than 900 characters from Charles Dickens’ famous stories come to life. Meet iconic figures such as Scrooge, Oliver Twist and the Christmas Carol Singers as you stroll through atmospheric, illuminated streets filled with music, street theatre, crafts and winter treats. For one weekend, the entire district is transformed into a living open-air theatre where visitors can imagine themselves in a different era. The Dickens Festival takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2026 and is one of the best-known and most-visited Christmas events in the Netherlands.

On Saturday 12 December 2026, Meipoortstraat will be transformed into a charming setting filled with Christmas stalls, winter treats and festive music. Stroll through the illuminated streets, discover unique gifts and sample local specialities whilst Father Christmas and various performers add to the festive atmosphere. Thanks to the historic town centre and the intimate setting, the Christmas market is a perfect day out for young and old alike during the month of December.
